Two start-ups incubated by members of the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) have been awarded “CES Innovation Awards” at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2024 now being staged in the United States. Scoping the highest number of awards among Hong Kong universities, these accolades recognize HKUST's significant contributions to the innovation and technology eco-system, cementing its position as a leading institution in the global tech landscape.The two winning HKUST start-ups are: AI Guided Limited and Sitan Semiconductor International.

Croucher Foundation held the Foundation Day Dinner and Awards Presentation Ceremony last Friday (December 8) to present the Croucher Tak Wah Mak Innovation Awards 2023 to four distinguished scholars from the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST), the Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) and the University of Hong Kong (HKU), for their outstanding scientific research achievements. Prof. SUN Dong, the Secretary for Innovation, Technology and Industry of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region was the Guest of Honor at the ceremony.   The list of awardees is as follows: Dr. Adrian PO Hoi-Chun Hari Harilela Assistant Professor of Physics, Department of Physics, School of Science, The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology Dr. WANG Lan Assistant Professor, Division of Life Science, School of Science, The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology

Prof. YANG Yansong, Assistant Professor of Electronic and Computer Engineering, has been selected as a recipient of the 2023 IEEE Electron Devices Society (EDS) Early Career Award.

Prof. Ross MURCH, Chair Professor of Electronic and Computer Engineering (ECE), received the prestigious Wireless Communications Technical Committee (WTC) Recognition Award 2023 from the IEEE Communications Society (IEEE ComSoc).

Six distinguished individuals, Mr. Nicholas CHAN Hiu-Fung, Dr. Adrian CHENG Chi-Kong, Mr. Wilson FUNG Ying-Wai, Prof. Albert IP Yuk-Keung, Ms. Sarah LEE Wai-Sze and Ms. YAO Jue (in alphabetical order of surnames) were conferred Honorary Fellowships by the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) today. Officiating at the ceremony were Prof. Harry SHUM, Chairman of the HKUST Council, and Prof. Nancy IP, President of the HKUST.HKUST Council Chairman Prof. Harry Shum applauded the six awardees for their outstanding accomplishments, significant contributions to society and unwavering support to the University. “Each of our six new Honorary Fellows has set a high bar of excellence in their respective domains, effecting positive change within Hong Kong and beyond. Their journeys and accomplishments serve as a beacon of inspiration, encouraging the future generation to break boundaries and catalyze meaningful change for the betterment of society,” he said.

Two research projects led by Prof. SUN Qingping and Prof. Kevin CHEN Jing respectively have secured over HK$58 million* in total in the first round of the Research Grants Council’s (RGC) Strategic Topics Grant (STG).

All 19 HKUST teams on the delegation have won a total of 20 awards.

The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) is pleased to be ranked on the "Top 50 Research Organizations Most Often Cited by the Top 100 Global Innovators for 2023" released by leading data analytics organization Clarivate on February 16, 2023.Ranked 47th, HKUST is the only university in Hong Kong on the list, with a total of 556 research papers being referenced by the top 100 global innovators. We are delighted to see that our research discoveries have made contributions to world-leading innovators such as Airbus and Huawei. HKUST will continue to strive for excellence and enhance our research impact, while attracting and nurturing innovative talents.  Leveraging on our strength in basic research, we will seek to bridge the gap between upstream scientific research and midstream development through close collaboration with local, mainland and global governments as well as different industrial sectors.
