The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) has launched the new WavyOcean Digital Twin Earth System Version 3.0, making its online platform available to the public for the first time. Built around the concept of "Taohai" – a Chinese term meaning "searching or discovering from the sea", the platform transforms ocean data from research-focused resources into shared knowledge accessible to all.By enhancing the visibility and interpretability of marine ecosystems, the platform promotes deeper public understanding of the ocean and encourages informed actions to support marine conservation and safeguard valuable marine ecosystems.

The use of the Scholarly Publications Database (SPD), which showcases the research output of the University, registered a 30% increase with 1.78 million page views recorded in 2016-17.

ORCID is a non-profit, cross-disciplinary effort to create and maintain a Registry of unique and persistent researcher identifiers. By the end of 2016, close to 3 million ORCID iDs have been created. Research funders and institutions worldwide are joining the effort to integrate ORCID iDs into their systems. At HKUST, EVPPO is requiring all faculty to have ORCID iDs and connect them to the HKUST Scholarly Publications Database (SPD).
